A Peek at Moscow's World Cup Stadium

Fast Co. Design offers this look at some of the renderings for the proposed World Cup stadium to be built in Russia ahead of the 2018 World Cup.

The stadium, VTB Arena Park, is designed by Dutch architect Erick van Egeraat and his Russian partner Mikhail Posokhin. Their plans include building a park with public green space, shopping, restaurants, training facilities, and even a hotel. The big design move here is the redevelopment of the Dynamo Moscow Stadium, a football arena and erstwhile Olympics venue built in 1928. With the new setup, two stadia will be plunked down over the old one, so that the existing perimeter facade is neatly preserved.

Qatar Has High-Tech Solution to Heat for 2022 Bid

Qatar's bid to host the 2022 World Cup seems to be progressing smoothly, except for one minor detail: June and July temperature in Qatar can peak over 100 degrees F. To accommodate sports in such an oppressive climate, organizers there say they've got a technological solution that will make the weather a non-issue.

"Currently, we are researching various cooling methods which are environmentally friendly and very effective," said Qatar 2022 chief executive officer Hassan al-Thawadi.

"We'll be unveiling a number of visionary, state-of-the-art ideas for iconic stadia and infrastructure and we're very excited by the challenge."

Durban Stadium Gets New Attraction

The design of the new Moses Mahbida Stadium in Durban has garnered a lot of attention over the past few months. Its striking arch over the field and the funicular cable car that rides on it have thrust the stadium into the international spotlight.

Now there's a new addition: a bungee swing will soon open at the top of the arch.

The swing will be suspended from the top of the arch and people will be able to swing from the fourth level on one side of the stadium across to the other.

The city's municipal manager, Michael Sutcliffe, said the swing was currently being tested and would "open for business" within a week.
