Both tourism leaders - speaking at separate events more than a week apart in the city - made almost identical declarations about Durban's fortunate 2010 position. But they both also asked the industry and South Africans alike to seize the "once-in-a-lifetime" opportunity and promote the World Cup.
Hosts South Africa, who were due to use Esselen Park as their base, had to change after the president of the South African Football Association (Safa) Kirsten Nematandani found the proposed venue unsuitable as it was run-down.
The team will now stay in the Southern Sun hotel in Graystone Drive and train at a local high school.
Safa CEO Leslie Sedibe earlier in the week described the situation pertaining to the Bafana base camp as "embarrassing".
The province's geographical position at high altitude and abundance of amenities, including world-class hotels, training facilities and stadiums, have ensured that at least 16 of the 32 countries will be based in the province.
Some of the top countries who have decided to set up camp in Gauteng are Holland, Brazil, Argentina, Italy and Germany.
The City of Tshwane has already approved a total of seven base camp facilities. One such facility is the High Performance Centre in Hatfield, attached to the University of Pretoria, which Argentina inspected on Monday as their potential base camp.
Another one is the Southdown's College used by Italy during the FIFA Confederations Cup last year. HM Pitje Stadium in Mamelodi, Caledonian Stadium, Pilditch Stadium, Laudium Stadium and Eersterus Sport Stadium are the other five sports facilities that can be used by teams wishing to stay in Tshwane.
But the Western Cape was forced to lobby against two factors over which it had no control: altitude and rainfall.
"Some teams are very determined to be training at altitude because they believe they must if they want to win the World Cup final which is in Johannesburg, even though the two semi-finals will be held at sea level," Platzky said at an investor breakfast in Cape Town on Thursday.
